Singapore is building its 24th settlement since World War II, but the first with centralized cooling, automated waste collection, and a car free town centre. The settlement consists of 42,000 new units across five residential districts. The development will also include eco friendly features, including electric vehicle charging stations and a 328 foot wide ecological corridor through its centre, providing a safe connection for wildlife. All car related infrastructure will be pushed underground to allow the areas above ground to be used exclusively by cyclists and pedestrians. The community will be cold water cooled with the use of solar power, which will then be piped directly to the homes. Garbage collection will only be done when needed, as determined by a garbage collection sensor, and it will not employ garbage trucks for every home. Instead, garbage will be sucked through a pneumatic system to a chamber that serves several blocks and trucks are then used to pick up the garbage from the chambers.
