Bike Highways are not just simple bike lines or paths, a bike highway is a fully-fledged highway that's usage is reserved for bicycles. The idea of such a highway is not new, way back in the 1890s Los Angeles had plans for the bike highway, however the concept was scrapped as the automobile arrived and pushed bikes out of the limelight. Europe has recently seen a resurgence in bike highways as cities look to go greener and reduce traffic congestion. Germany completed a large-scale bike highway in 2015 and London is making plans to do the same. But getting initiatives off the ground in North American cities is more difficult as Europe has traditionally had more investment in biking infrastructure.
