Bladeless wind turbine wobbles to generate power

Vortex Bladeless is a start-up that invented a bladeless wind turbine that oscillates to collect kinetic energy from the wind. David Yanez, the co-founder of the company, says that this wind turbine will generate electricity at 30 percent of the cost of conventional wind turbines. The turbine is designed to be, “a slender vertical and simple piece of machinery…[that] produces no noise and doesn’t require much maintenance compared to traditional wind turbines”. The turbine can also be used in combination with solar energy when there is not much wind. Yanez also says that due to, “the absence of maintenance, no need for oil and the low cost could be the elements that make this idea a useful tool for distributing energy, producing energy close to the point of consumption."
