Norway’s Wireless Charging Road- Tech Vision

Climate Change, Energy & Pollution Mobility Video

Summary

Norway is trying to increase the viability of electric commercial vehicles by introducing a fleet of taxis that charge wirelessly while waiting for fares at taxi ranks. The taxi is charged through induction; charging plates are placed under the road that creates an electric current, the force of this generates a current within a coil inside the car or taxi that charges it up. All of this is done without the use of any cables. Norway is aiming to have the first of these green taxi ranks up and running by 2023. The future applications of this type of technology are intriguing, could we have a downtown core for example covered in charging plates that charge electric vehicles as they move for example. That may be a long way off, but for now, this technology has the potential to make green vehicles more efficient, more feasible, and more desirable moving forward in both the commercial sector and private ownership.
