The Institute of Economics and Peace reports that the climate crisis is putting more people at risk of living in conditions which pose a threat to the health and well being of many. Threats include lack of water and food, as well as higher susceptibility to natural disasters. The nineteen countries facing the highest number of threats are also among the 40 least peaceful countries in the world. These countries are also projected to experience rapid increases in population growth, with a higher number of refugees emigrating to safer countries and an estimated 1.2 billion people potentially being displaced by 2050. Threats also pose a barrier to world peace, as more countries will have to fight for diminishing resources.
