Stockholm suburb to get 'feminist urban planning' redesign

This article provides an interesting description of a shift in urban planning and design revolving around feminism. In a suburb of Stockholm, a housing company, Svenska Bostäder (SB), aims to push for more feminist urban planning by redesigning the area’s center to create a gender balance. With this approach, it aims to make more women feel comfortable and welcomed into public spaces. Workshops were set up where female residents were free to speak and point out areas which they felt unsafe to be in. These consultations led to better street lighting to be put in place in addition to the relocation of a café located in the centre which has been mainly frequented by men. Additional changes in the future will include modifications made to the nearby subway station with the company clearly indicating they want this example to be the beginning for new feminist urban planning initiatives in the future.
